To je vi\u0161egodi\u0161nja cvetna biljka koja mo\u017ee da raste do 1 m u visinu, sa dubokim korenskim sistemom koji obi\u010dno dose\u017ee dubinu od 2-3 m.<\/p>\n Koren ove leguminoze poseduje kvr\u017eice koje sadr\u017ee bakteriju Sinhorhizobium meliloti, koja fiksira atmosferski azot da bi proizvela hranu bogatu proteinima i pove\u0107ala sadr\u017eaj azota u zemlji\u0161tu.<\/p>\n Lucerka je najpogodnija za toplu umerenu klimu, jer poti\u010de iz centralno-ju\u017ene Azije i prvi put je uzgajana u drevnom Iranu. Uzgaja se u mnogim zemljama \u0161irom sveta kao va\u017ena krmna kultura za ispa\u0161u, sila\u017eu i seno, pored toga \u0161to se koristi kao zeleno \u0111ubrivo i pokrovni usev.<\/p>\n Lucerka ima veiliki potencijal kao visokoprinosna i visokoproteinska sto\u010dna hrana, ali su za njen uspeh potrebni ogovaraju\u0107i uslovi za uzgoj. Ne uspeva dobro u oblastima sa obilnim padavinama, glinovitim zemlji\u0161tem ili gde postoji problem zbijanja tla. Zbog toga je najpogodnija za tople, suve uslove u slobodno dreniraju\u0107im, alkalnim zemlji\u0161tima (pH 7). Lucerka je vrlo otporna na su\u0161u i mo\u017ee opstati 4 do 8 godina pod pravim uslovima.<\/p>\n Lucerku treba sejati u prole\u0107e (\u010dak i tokom letnjih meseci), sve dok temperatura zemlji\u0161ta iznosi najmanje 8 \u02daC. Mo\u017ee se kositi nekoliko puta tokom vegetacije u intervalima od \u0161est nedelja (mada ne i u prvoj godini uzgoja) i mo\u017ee proizvesti do 12 t suve materije po hektaru iz vi\u0161estrukih otkosa. Dobro fermetisana sila\u017ea lucerke treba da ima 30 % suve materije, sadr\u017eaj proteina od oko 20 % i sadr\u017eaj metaboli\u010dke energije od 10 MJ\/kg DM, u zavisnosti od stepena zrelosti pri otkosu. locked=\"off\"] Lucerne, also called alfalfa, is a species in the genus Medicago and is part of the legume family Fabaceae. It is a perennial flowering plant and can grow up to 1 m high, with a deep rooting system which typically reaches depths of 2-3 m.<\/p> The roots of this legume bear nodules containing the bacteria Sinorhizobium meliloti, which fix atmospheric nitrogen to produce a protein rich feed and increase soil nitrogen content.<\/p> Lucerne is best suited to warm temperate climates, having originated in South-Central Asia and first grown in ancient Iran. It is cultivated in many countries around the world, being an important forage crop for grazing, silage and hay, in addition to being used as a green manure and cover crop.<\/p> Lucerne has great potential as a high yielding and high protein forage feed for livestock but requires the correct growing conditions for its success. It does not perform well in areas of high rainfall, clay soils or where soil compaction is an issue. Therefore, it is best suited to warm, dry conditions in free-draining, more alkaline soils (pH 7). Lucerne is very resistant to drought and can last between 4 to 8 years under the right conditions.<\/p> Sow in the spring (and even through the summer months), as long as soil temperature is a minimum 8 \u02daC. Lucerne can be cut several times over the growing season at six week intervals (although not in its first year of establishment) and produce up to 12 tons dry matter\/hectare from multiple cuts. A well fermented lucerne silage should have a dry matter of 30 %, with a protein content of around 20 % and a metabolizable energy content of 10 MJ\/kg DM, depending on the stage of maturity at cutting.
